Hello! Welcome to my world... the world of landscapes of the American West.
I have been an artist all my life occasionally interrupted by schooling and/or earning a living. I was always drawing and doodling as a child right through my school years. I continued this pursuit of art by taking classes in school and participating in workshops later in life.
I was a teacher/coach in the Albuquerque Public Schools for over twenty years, teaching history and other social studies and coaching various high school sports. But, I always wanted to pursue a career in art.
For many years I painted in watercolor and acrylics, but about fifteen years ago I discovered the "magic" of pastels. Pastels are just pure color pigment bound into a stick form rather than in oil/water etc. And they come in hundreds of pure colors which allow me as the artist to blend them into the paintings I produce. By using pastels I can use my drawing skill to overcome my major disability ...you see, I am red-green color blind! But, by emphasizing my observation and composition skills plus the use of color blending, I create my own view of the world. (I do, of course, create the occasional purple sky or lake to my wife's amusement).
I was one of the original members of the Nob Hill Gallery some years ago, and I show and have shown at galleries in NM, Arizona and Colorado. I have won awards at exhibitions throughout the Southwest.
As my wife and I travel throughout America, I photograph and sketch the magnificent landscapes of our nation to provide inspiration for my paintings. I hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I did creating them.
