Jean Porter
I have always enjoyed art. For me, it is an opportunity for insight and greater understanding of life and the world around us. It's a tool. Ironically, the more individualized the work is , the more Universal it becomes. I think it's because we are all made out of the same stuff.
It is my view that we share a Universal Mind and that is where our originating energy is found. The thought-image or ideal pattern of a thing already exists there. In this Universal Mind all that we are and all that we have yet to discover is available. There, I found the inspiration to create, to draw from an unlimited supply of ideas. Of course, this subject invites a lifetime of study and discovery. This is just the briefest of explanations on the subject.
The medium of oil works well for me. It invites many ways of working and is virtually indestructable when dry. It allows me to investigate form without limit. I like to introduce the human figure in my work, along with other forms. I attempt to paint recognizable objects in unusual juxtaposition for the purpose of illustrating a philosophical point.
