I acquired the skill in the craft of black
and white photography in a junior high school class back in the early
70s. I have since developed the photographer’s eye over the years which
has inspired the creative process of my artist endeavors. Ansel Adams’
life work of creative photography has influenced my work of fine art
photography through the utilization of digital photography and computer
technology. I believe Ansel would have embraced this technology for he
was also an experimenter of the state of art equipment of his time.
My early years in photography brought me experience as a College news
paper, and yearbook chief photographer where I received a few awards in
my college career. My interests at that time were with journalism
photography, but I experimented with landscapes and creative still life
in black and white photography. I also did some freelance work like
political campaigns, and athletic events. At one point in this period I
dabbled into commercial color portrait photography to support my
creative photography endeavors.
I took a long break from photography after I graduated from College. I
was fortunate to land a career in my major, BS in Computer Science. In
the late 1990s I rediscovered the fine art photographer in me with the
advent of Digital Photography. The technical advances took a while to
mature and now surpass the resolution and darkroom techniques of
traditional film and chemical photography. The contemporary
photo-artist now has the tools of a high resolution digital camera,
(photographer’s eye), photograph editing software, (artist’s palette),
and inkjet/laser printers, (artist’s canvas); all combined as gear to
enable one to create a work of art. The computer and printer is my
darkroom and part of that darkroom will follow me and my camera in the
field accompanied by a MacBook Air.
In summation I have merged my experience as a traditional creative
photographer with my current vocation as a computer professional. My
landscape photo sessions are inspired by the all powerful vistas of this
land of enchantment and the diverse terrain that is exclusively located
in New Mexico. I want to capture this beauty in a frame hoping when you
behold my work; you will feel what I felt when the moment the shutter
clicked.
